Educators' Network

This part of the website is dedicated to educators in ITF affiliates and more specifically to the ITF educators’ network. The purpose is to provide useful information for education purposes and to build links on good practice. Educators are welcome to share information on this site relating to running workshops, using materials, developing education methodology etc.

The network provides a forum for exchanging ideas about the activities and priorities of the ITF Education Department, including existing and forthcoming education projects, new publications etc. By interacting with members of the network, the Education department is also able to identify gaps in our education provision and ways of overcoming them.

The site also provides information on individual educators, which is compiled on a regional basis. This information relates to each educator’s interests, union education activities and contact details. See below Educator's Profiles

Background

The educators’ network has largely grown out of a global training the trainers project funded by LO-TCO in Sweden.  The project began in 2003 with the aim of encouraging unions to incorporate international issues into their education programme. Union education officers and leaders are targeted through training seminars at a regional and global level. The educators on the programme have emerged as resource people who can be called upon to assist in the running of the seminars on different levels and topics. The project is ongoing and has resulted in many dynamic new union education initiatives at a local level. The ITF has developed a range of materials to support educators in their work.

Thus far more than 100 educators have been trained. They in turn have put education on international issues on the agenda of their unions.

My ITF
Use the My ITF education bulletin board to communicate and debate current issues relating not just to education but matters affecting transport and trade unions today. Educators will be informed when a topic is initiated either by a fellow education officer on the network or as a result of ITF education activities.

Educators’ Profiles
This marks the beginning of making the educators on the network more visible to each other, and a way of discovering the common issues which we face. These common issues provides the basis for active exchanges of experiences, ideas and information. It is also a way for the education department to understand and respond to the needs and interests of educators in ITF affiliates.

Justice for Pedro Zamora and STEPQ
Join the ITF in calling for justice in Guatemala. Pedro Zamora, General Secretary of the Dockers' union STEPQ, was brutally murdered in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, while driving his two children from the port hospital. Now, other union leaders face similar threats of violence. We must ensure the guilty are brought to justice ¡No hay impunidad! more >>
