Trade union activities on 24 November 2004

The ITF is requesting its affiliated unions focus their most important activities on 24 November. If this is not possible, activities should take place at some time during the week. All unions will receive campaign materials to assist their participation in activities. Due to the nature of this campaign, unions have to decide nationally and locally which of the mentioned activities might be helpful!

All activities should be supported by as many unions as possible.

An information picket

Airport information pickets and leafleting have been a highlight of many unions activities during past campaigns, and affiliates reported that they were highly successful in involving union members, attracting the public’s attention and gaining media coverage. If you wish to distribute material, your union will need to do this. Unions may need to obtain advance permission from the airport in order to distribute leaflets.

A union rally/mass meeting

This could be organised at the airport to explain the issue.

A union education activity

This might be organised at or near the airport to explain the issues to members.

A press conference

This could be organised at or near the airport explaining the reasons for the Action Day and announcing its launch. Unions are encouraged to work together, and in some cases you may wish to involve sympathetic politicians or regulators.

Other ideas

We need other good ideas for actions for the Action Day. Has your union come up with a good imaginative idea? Please email us, if possible in advance, so that we can pass it on.
