Ryanair pilots’ association gets off the ground
17 November 2004
A new association has been set up by pilots employed by low-cost airline Ryanair.
Launched on 18 October by both the Irish and British airline pilots’ associations, the Ryanair European Pilots’ Association (REPA) is supported by pilots’ unions across Europe. These include umbrella body, the European Cockpit Association.
The initiative follows hard on the heels of the ITF’s website providing Ryanair workers with a voice - www.ryan-be-fair.org - which got off the ground in August.
Irish Airline Pilots’ Association president Captain Evan Cullen said REPA would provide Ryanair pilots with a united voice: "Members will decide what points they want raised with management, with the regulators and with politicians. Ryanair pilots will be able to speak with one voice."
It appears unlikely that the airline will negotiate with the new association; a spokeswoman said it would continue to deal directly with employees.
