30 Oct 2007 - 30 Apr 2008 UN Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, 2007

UN Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
 | | | ITF Campaign Ribbon: No to Violence Against Women! | |
The ITF has marked this day annually since 2002. Transport workers are vulnerable to physical and non-physical violence because of the jobs they do, and women are vulnerable in different ways, because they often handle customer relations and because working alone or at night as well as travelling to and from work at night can mean they are in danger from sexually-motivated or gender-related attacks.
As well as addressing workplace violence, many of the ITF’s affiliated unions have been working on issues of domestic violence, and on ways that sufferers from violence can be given help in the workplace. This includes unions arguing for access to medical support and counselling, as well as ensuring confidentiality of cases and sympathetic handling of requests for time off work, where necessary.
