Germany / Austria
Representatives from the German union, Transnet and the Austrian union, Gewerkschaft der Eisenbahner held a joint meeting in Salzburg today to discuss working conditions and security in the transport sector. The meeting brought together shop stewards from Railion and ÖBB who exchanged information and their experiences on the liberalisation on the Brenner corridor (north-south). The meeting highlighted that even if companies are in competition with each other, workers cannot be divided with regards social and safety standards (Phone report by Armin Duttine, Transnet and email report by Harald Voitl, GdE)

Belgium
In the morning of 27 March, the CGSP-ACOD organised activities at Ottignies and Pécrot stations to mark the 5th anniversary of the accident that took place at 08:50 on 27 March, killing 8 people. Approximately 150 people attended the activities, including a delegation from the French union CGT as well as representatives from unions in Luxembourg and Norway, and ACV-Transcom (a FIOST member union) also participated in the action. Sabine Trier, ETF Deputy General Secretary attended the event. The programme started at Ottignies station with speeches. A minute's silence was also held. The delegation then travelled to Pécrot to lay a wreath in memory of the victims. Media coverage was very good. (Phone report by Serge Piteljon)

Spain
ELA-Hainbat concentrated its activities this morning in various stations in the region including Bilbao and San Sebastian. About 2,000 leaflets were distributed. Meetings were held with railway workers to explain about the Action Day Campaign and to raise awareness about issues affecting railways, in particular violence that workers experience. The union also held meetings with company representatives to highlight this issue and to discuss possible preventative measures as well as cooperation with the union.
