Bangladesh The Bangladesh Railway Employees' League (BREL) has held a demonstration at Dhaka Railway station in the capital city against the railway restructuring proposed in conjunction the World Bank and Asian Development Bank. A seminar was also held at the head office in Dhaka at 11am today where all parties involved were invited to discuss this issue. (Phone report by Mr Md. Enayet Hossain Akand)
Mongolia
The Federation of Mongolian Railway Workers Trade Union organised a joint meeting with management on railway safety in Ulaanbaatar today. More than 60 people took part in the meeting including activists from all branches of the union and representatives from the railway company. A special report was given to the meeting by the union about the work of the ITF and the Railway Workers' Action Day Campaign. At midday a press conference was held, attended by 10 central newspapers. At main railway stations and companies throughout Mongolia, the union held rallies and meetings, sport events. Leaflets and the union message in Russian and English were also distributed to passengers. (Phone report by Sh. Buyanaa)
