Page context: Solidarity with Longview dockers USA > Dispute background
ILWU Local 21 workers have performed the longshore work associated with grain export at the Port of Longview for over 70 years, EGT, owner of a grain terminal at the port, stands accused of trying to ignore this longstanding history by bringing in both non-unionised workers and those from unions outside of the local area to do the work of Longview dockers. Longview dockers have held a series of protests outside the grain terminal including one in which ILWU president Bob McEllrath was
detained by police.
Since details of the dispute were brought to the attention of ITF-affiliated unions, dockers all over the world have been demonstrating their solidarity with workers at Longview. Keep checking the latest news and actions section.
