Across Australia, the TWU is using the action day to hold wage report-back meetings as part of national negotiations at TNT. In addition, the union is also meeting with the members at DHL, UPS and FedEx. Union activists are handing out leaflets to raise awareness of the international union network that TWU is building with the ITF and its affiliates. Tony Sheldon of the TWU says: "The action day has been an opportunity to spread the message of global action across these four companies. Our members have responded well to the prospect of coordinated international activities". Daniel Kicuroski, TWU, and Mac Urata, ITF Inland Transport Section Secretary, addressed the members’ meeting of 50 workers at TNT’s Enfield hub centre in a Sydney suburb this morning.

UNI and the ITF-affiliated Federation of Hong Kong Transport Workers’ Organizations, organised a joint action. Two organisers went to the main DHL hub and handed out leaflets and spoke to workers who expressed concerns about working conditions, in particular, poor health and safety standards. The organisers felt that the response towards the unions was positive and that the workers appreciated the unions’ interest in their welfare.

A global delivery workshop brought together 150 people from all transport sections who work for UPS, TNT and FedEx. Despite a good relationship with the companies, the main issue is pay. The unions are calling for the government to revise salary levels so that employees are paid a decent wage.
