Dockers are under attack! Fight back by taking action on 7 July

  • About the campaign

See photos of 7 July 2016 action!

On 7 July the International Transport Workers’ Federation and International Dockworkers’ Council are calling on dockers everywhere to observe a day that recognises the important contribution dockworkers make to the global economy, the risks they face at work every day and their growing concerns for the future regarding attacks on their working conditions. A tribute to fallen and injured comrades will be included.

We want to see action being taken locally, regionally and globally on 7 July at 8am your local time around these key issues:

    • Health & safety
    • Precarious work
    • Respect for collective bargaining rights and agreements
    • Labour standards in global companies
    • Automation and social justice

Here’s how to do your bit.

    Unions

    • Organise an activity, it could be a demonstration or a meeting to support the day of action. Use the campaign materials (in English, French, German and Spanish) to support your actions. If you can, plan your activity for 08:00 local time to show unions globally are taking collective action!
    • Nominate a key contact person to keep in touch with the ITF, ETF and IDC about your plans. Email contact details to Dockers@itf.org.uk and/or coordination@idcdockworkers.org Please put key contact person in the subject box of the email
    • Take photos and video clips during your actions and share them on social media. Share with us on Facebook and on twitter @ITFglobalunion @ETFdockers @IDCdockers and use the hashtag #DefendDockersRights

one more hour and the wave has reached russia, new zealand and australia again, the only problems ive heard was "1h man whats the use?". let me put it this way. dockers have always been a weapon but the enemy kept growing bigger, and our weapon didnt. now there is a new weapon assembled by the itf etf idc boys, and it is loaded and ready for use. this is what the hour was all about, creating an enourmous weapon. now its up to the idc etf itf to use it. proud docker ready for action!
