The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) will sign an important agreement at its 44th Congress in Singapore to research the future of work in every transport sector, and suggest interventions to help workers improve their skills to compete for high-value jobs.

The ITF, International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and allies are out in force at global climate talks to amplify workers’ demands to be at the heart of moves towards climate justice.

The ITF has contributed to a major civil society report on sustainable development launched on the first day of the United Nations’ High-Level Political Forum.

International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) unions from around the world are gathering in Stockholm, Sweden for the first meeting of the federation’s new automation working group.

Commenting on Workers’ Memorial Day, which takes place tomorrow 28 April, ITF president Paddy Crumlin said: “This is the day we remember all those, known and unknown, friends and strangers, who have suffered injury or death in the workplace. It’s the day we remember the dead and fight for the living.

ITF unions in the Our Public Transport (OPT) programme have laid the foundations for an alternative public transport policy that works for workers as well as passengers.

The ITF is urging all its unions to participate in two major initiatives to promote gender equality and eliminate violence against women in the workplace, which the federation launched on International Women’s Day (8 March).

Speaking today, International Women’s Day, Diana Holland, chair of the ITF’s (International Transport Workers’ Federation’s) women transport workers’ committee, said: “The 8th of March isn’t just an occasion of celebration, resistance and diversity, it’s also a time to point to achievements and growth. The ITF and its unions stand proud in working with women transport workers making workplaces better, safer and more representative.”

Unions will combat inequality, fear and intolerance

The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) and the UITP (International Association of Public Transport) are joining forces to put public transport at the forefront of tackling climate change.
