Fátima is the Youth Secretary of the CCOO Citizens’ Services Federation.
Role: Developing youth policies for the federation so as to make the entire organisation aware of the need to fight seriously against job insecurity, casualisation and in general all those employment and social situations that involve discrimination against young women and young men. Establishing national role models for young people, reinforcing activities such as the training of union officials, participation in union elections and the recruitment of members; among our many activities, we create dynamic working groups and promote the use of new technology.
Statement: “Globalisation is effectively destroying the welfare state that we in the European countries campaigned so hard for. The outsourcing of production processes and the deregulation of terms and conditions of employment have caused serious social fragmentation. Today young people are more highly qualified than ever before yet they struggle to find stable employment. As unions with an internationalist approach, we must start by fighting to convince our own unions that working for young people must be a priority, as it is the means by which we shall combat job insecurity and build stronger trade unions”.
