- About these links
Sharon started her first union experience during school days when she was in the Executive Committee in the school’s students union. There she represented all the students of the school to improve school facilities and getting management to finance the student activities organized by the union.
She embarked on a career working in the banking industry but derived no real job satisfaction. Thereafter, she chanced upon a position available in the Singapore Organisation of Seamen (SOS). When working in the nion she initially embarked on improving the retirement fund scheme for the seafarers. This was then followed by organising training and re-training programs for all seafarers, enabling them to remain competitive and enhance their employability. She in particular, fights for continuous education and upgrading the skills of younger seafarers as current industry conditions require them to stay relevant.
Sharon is also involved in recruiting more youth members and organising more activities for union members who are below 35 years of age and at the same time organising activities for other ages and nationalities.
