Page context: Home > Urban Transport > Unions say No to Violence! > Survey for women workers
Women transport workers are facing the same problems as their male colleagues in the workplace with regards violence at work but are also subject to additional risks. Unfortunately some of these risks come from within the workforce and need specific targeting by unions. Sexual harassment is a serious problem and can take many forms.
Women road transport and railway workers are encouraged to participate in the Sections' ongoing activities on work-related violence.
The ITF has therefore developed a short survey which we hope you and/or your union will find useful in recording the views of women road transport and railway workers on the issues relating to sexual harassment and violence in your workplace.
As with other cases of violence in the workplace, many incidents of sexual harassment are not reported. Often, women fear that if they do, they will lose their job and unfortunately, colleagues may ignore such incidents with the attitude that 'it is part of the job'.
Can you hold a workplace meeting to discuss the issues and conduct the survey of other women members in your workplace?
Available to download as PDFs below are two resources to assist you in this activity:
This activity will form part of our ongoing work on violence and so your cooperation on this survey would therefore be very important. We anticipate to produce a report of the survey in due course.
Working together on issues for women members as well as possible strategies to target problems will mean better protection for all - for women and men transport workers.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation
