Dear Mr President

I am writing to express my absolute condemnation of the tragic murder of Pedro Zamora Alvarez, General Secretary of the ITF-affiliated port union STEPQ, on the evening of 15 January.

As you may know, Pedro Zamora and his two children were attacked by gunmen as they left the port area. Zamora was shot in the face. His three year old son was injured in the hail of bullets.

Mr. President, it would seem that Pedro Zamora's violent assassination was directly linked to his trade union activity and to his role in recent industrial conflicts in the port of Quetzal. I am sure you would agree with me that anti-trade union violence is utterly unacceptable and that this murder must not go unpunished.

I would ask you therefore to intervene to start an immediate investigation into this horrific incident and ensure that those responsible face proper justice.

I would be grateful to hear your comments on this case,

Yours sincerely
