Dear Paul Schwaiger,
I understand that SunExpress been intimidating workers in order to prevent them from joining a union.
I also understand that you have been personally involved in this intimidation and harassment together with your Flight Operations Manager and Deputy General Manager and this has now culminated in the dismissal of six of your employees for expressing an interest in becoming union members.
I am shocked that such intimidation can take place in a country which is trying to join the European Union based on social dialogue.
I wish to point out that this is a gross violation of workers’ human rights to join a trade union, rights which have been laid down by the United Nations in International Labour Organisation Conventions and which Turkey has ratified.
I call upon you to cease this anti-union intimidation and to comply with international labour standards by reinstating the six SunExpress airline employees who have been dismissed.
