Global Unions Initiative to fund reconstruction in tsunami area The ITF and the other sector based Global Union Federations (GUFs) together with the ICFTU representing national trade union centres, agreed at their annual meeting on 11-12 January to establish a 'Global Unions' initiative to provide funding for sustainable rehabilitation and reconstruction work in the areas affected by the Tsunami disaster.

ITF Situation Report: ITF Asia-Pacific Regional Secretary, Shigeru Wada, visited Indonesia in order to have a first-hand look of the disaster in Aceh as well as to discuss with Indonesian unions on how trade unions can contribute to reconstruction efforts.

ITF urges long-term aid for unions damaged by Tsunami
Following last month’s horrifying Tsunami disaster, reports from Sri Lanka and India about casualties suffered by officials and members as well as damage to transport union buildings, have been coming in to the ITF - which has called for immediate donations for humanitarian purposes to be made in conjunction with national trade union appeals.
