Negotiations between the Swedish Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union, HRF, and LSG Sky Chefs have taken place on Wednesday, Thursday (morning and evening sessions) and are in progress today, Friday, September 3, under the auspices of the National Mediation Office. So far, these talks have produced no concrete results.
Industrial action is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 6 at noon and will involve about 400 HRF members in food preparation, packaging and delivery at Sweden's 3 international airports.
The following airlines, catered by LSG Sky Chefs in Sweden, will be affected: SAS, Air Bothnia, Malmö Aviation, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Line, Austrian, Spanair, TAP Air Portugal, LOT and the charter companies Britannia Airways, Novair and Fly Me.
On behalf of HRF and its membership, we are informing unions organising LSG Sky Chefs workers of this conflict and asking that all possible support measures be considered.
The Swedish Transport Workers Union has given notice that their members would be barred from performing any work normally carried out by HRF's bargaining unit at LSG. They will ensure that no food will be delivered to or loaded on the planes of the airlines normally catered by LSG Sky Chefs, thus preventing competitors such as Gate Gourmet and GG Logistics from giving LSG a hand. At the same time, the Swedish white-collar workers union HTF has announced that its members will not perform any work covered under HRF's strike notice.
The Norwegian private sector employees association, PRIFO, has also alerted their members against performing any additional work and requested that they be on their guard against changes in production volume and job assignments. The Norwegian Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union, HRAF, and the white-collar transport workers union LFF have also expressed their support for HRF's struggle for decent wages.
