Maritime and fisheries lost 3,8 trillions rupiah caused by earth quake and tsunami

As a result of the national earth quake and tsunami disaster the Maritime and fishery industry lost 3,8 trillions rupiah on facility and of the technical units. Fisherman from the total of 54,373 person, 14,373 person were estimated lost. Most causalities were fisherman and fish farmers at Meulaboh area and Banda Aceh. The Minister of Maritime and Fisheries Ministry, instructed the task force to enhance the intensification of collecting data and inventory of the damage of fisheries in the area. The government task force are also involved to the humanity mission trough distribution of aids,food and clothing for people who are saved. In the effort to regain the condition of maritime and fisheries in Aceh and North Sumatera which are urgent in 2005 the board has allocated 113,8 billions for the purpose they will revise the budget in 2005. The board also will reprogram same project assisted by the Asia Development Bank (ADB) amounting to US $ 9 million. These projects are among offers Marine Coastal Resources Management Project (MCRMP) of US $ 3 million and fish project of US $ 1 million it is expected the aids will be used for the housing facilities, fish catching, gears and other facilities.

The board's task force also has mobilized funds from people in the maritime sector. They have collected Rp. 777 billions and aids from Mercy Corps to be ready for contingency situations. The activities of the Board at this moment is look very significant at present that is to activate the catching of fish for operation which in able to be operated. A side of that construction of house for people in the area to replace theirs and rehabilitate the condition to enable to be operated again.
In conclusion we find that amount of financial looses reported officially are very high because in reality the living condition of fisherman living in Aceh are relatively poor and fishing industry consider as traditional industry.
