Background
Unite the Union (UK), which represents British Airways cabin crew, has been engaged in a long-running dispute with the airline, that has forced its members out on strike for a total of 17 days so far since March 2010. UNITE is now planning a further series of strikes from 05/06/10 to 09/06/10.
The ITF understand that flights departing from the UK during strike dates are likely to be crewed by strike breakers.
The ITF is once again calling on ITF affiliates, particularly aviation unions, to send messages of support to Unite cabin crew and to organise every possible lawful action against the “contaminated work" in these flights in support of our brothers and sisters in Unite.
Unite the Union represents more than 95% of BA's cabin crew. Since January 2009, Unite had been engaged in talks with BA about widespread changes aimed at reducing costs. These discussions ended when BA imposed changes in November 2009. The union then took the decision to ballot for industrial action and received strong support from members.
Unite cabin crew have been out on strike, in periods, since March 2010. During this time, the union has continued to try to negotiate a reasonable settlement with the company but to no avail.
