Support Alaska Airlines Workers

The ITF is asking affilliates to send letters of Solidarity to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), whose members were forced to stand by while their jobs were handed over by Alaska Airlines to a nonunion outside contractor.

Support Alaska Airlines Locked Out Workers

On May 13, 2005, U.S. based Alaska Airlines locked out 478 ramp service and store’s employees in Seattle, Washington, who had been represented for more than 30 years by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

The Alaska Airlines employees were locked out and prevented from reporting for work and in addition were forced to stand by while their jobs were handed over to a nonunion outside contractor.

The Machinists Union wants Alaska Airlines to negotiate the return of these union jobs, which will allow IAM members to return to the work they had previously done.

What Can You Do?

Please send Letters of Solidarity to the IAM:

Dear Brother De Pace:

It has come to our attention that on May 13, 2005, Alaska Airlines locked out 478 ramp service and store’s employees in Seattle, Washington, who had been represented for more than 30 years by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

It is our understanding that the Alaska Airlines employees were  locked out and prevented from reporting for work.  In addition, they were forced to stand by while their jobs were handed over to a nonunion outside contractor.  The actions of Alaska Airlines must not be tolerated.

We stand with the IAM and the locked out workers at Alaska Airlines in demanding that their jobs be restored immediately.

Please convey our solidarity to all of our brothers and sisters at the IAM.

Respectfully,
