    Sample letter:

    The Hon John Howard MP
    Prime Minister
    Parliament House
    CANBERRA ACT 2600

    Dear Prime Minister,

I am writing to express my concern about the continuing violation of citizens' and workers' rights in Australia, due to the impact of unfair industrial relations reforms introduced by your government. I understand from the International Transport Workers' Federation that these reforms impose heavy restrictions on workers’ rights to union representation and give employers disproportionate powers.

I strongly urge you therefore, to listen to the voices of the large numbers of Australians who are rallying on 30 November to call for "Rights at Work", and to take immediate action to repeal the IR laws.

    Yours sincerely

Rally, 28 June*

The ITF is supporting the November 30 rally in all Australian capital cities against the country’s draconian Industrial Relations legislation. The mass protest is organised by the Australian Council of Trade Unions –ACTU.

The ITF´s Durban Congress called on the ITF to assist Australian affiliates and the ACTU to resist the impact of anti-trade union laws in Australia and to work for their repeal.

A meeting of the Asia Pacific Seafarers’ Regional Committee recently held in Sydney strongly condemned the laws and supported the freedom of association complaint made to to the ILO by the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

Unions at the ITF event sent a support message to the November 30 events and pledged to ”join together with our Australian brothers and sisters to resist and oppose the implementation of these laws and will continue to work with our Australian affiliates in mobilising an international campaign.”
