The International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA), established in 1969, is a voluntary association of Christian maritime missions. ICMA promotes and encourages cooperation and mutual assistance between its members. ICMA affiliates have established presence in more than 500 ports throughout the world.
The International Committee on Seafarers’ Welfare (ICSW) is a voluntary organisation to make recommendations on welfare needs worldwide, to provide advice and assistance on the practical implementation of the ILO instruments on seafarers’ welfare, and to encourage and promote the welfare needs of seafarers.
International Seafarers Assistance Network (ISAN) was established in 1999 to run a 24 hour, multilingual helpline for seafarers and their families. It runs a large Freephone network and provides access for seafarers on chat, email, text as well as phone. It provides a referral service for seafarers who need information or assistance and helps to put them in touch with agencies which can help them.
The World Maritime University (WMU) was established in 1983 by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to increase the number of trained specialist maritime personnel in countries across the world. The Trust currently sponsors five students a year, selected by the WMU.
International Maritime Health Association (IMHA) In March 1999 the International Maritime Health Association (IMHA) established a permanent secretariat in Antwerp with the help from the Trust. The Trust support has helped IMHA to keep its operations running, to establish its presence within the maritime community and consolidate its structure for more effective promotion for seafarers’ health.
The Seafarers’ International Research Centre (SIRC), an independent research institution within Cardiff University, was established with Trust funding in 1995. SIRC aims to produce soundly based scientific knowledge of potential benefit to seafarers of all ranks and nationalities.
The Working Lives Research Institute (WLRI), based at London Metropolitan University, has assisted the Trust since 2008 with research into the welfare needs of seafarers. Their two reports for the Trust are under the ‘welfare reports’ tab on our website.
TK Foundation have co-funded a number of Trust projects. Together the Trust and TKF have funded the ‘Seafarers Emergency Fund’ which provides small amounts of money to welfare organisations to assist seafarers with immediate needs.
Seafarers Rights International, founded in 2009, this organisation seeks to improve the capacity for seafarers to be assisted legally, and to be able to defend their rights in a complex multijurisdictional world.
