In 2011, the United Nations (UN) launched a 'Decade of Action for Road Safety' with the aim of stabilising and then reducing global road deaths by 2020. The ITF is a member of the UN Road Safety Collaboration, which has taken the lead to prepare and implement an action plan for the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety.

The Action Week is therefore a good opportunity for unions to highlight the need for long-term and coordinated activities in support of national and local road safety as well as to emphasize the importance of unions being included in this process.
