Bulgaria
On 7 October, as part of activities for the World Day for Decent Work, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) - of which ITF affiliate the Federation of Transport Trade Unions in Bulgaria (FTTUB) is a member - conducted a national protest in front of the National Assembly in Sofia to oppose plans to increase the retirement age by three years for all Bulgarian workers and by two years for those working in hazardous conditions. The action gathered approximately 15,000 trade unionists from all over Bulgaria. The FTTUB participated actively in the protest and took the opportunity to inform participants and members about the International Action Week by disseminating brochures with information about the “Respect & Safety Now!” campaign and initiatives that the FTTUB union will undertake. Today, the union has held a national seminar for 35 road transport workers at a parking station. Campaign placards have been displayed. (Phone report by J.N Natt)
