Nordic action targets seafarers’ wages
21 September 2009
Trade unions affiliated to the ITF today launched a Nordic week of action. ITF inspectors in Nordic countries will be inspecting vessels this week, to map current wage levels.
The action week will also raise awareness and improve membership of the dockers’ unions in the Nordic countries.
Trade union activists from seafarers’ and dockers’ unions will visit other countries, to assist and learn from the existing inspection teams.
The Nordic action week is a yearly event run by the ITF and its affiliates, to help seafarers and dockers.
Staff from the ITF are helping coordinate vessel inspections in the Nordic countries of Germany, Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway.
