South East Asia action week day 4 update

13 November 2008

On the fourth day of the ITF’s South East Asia action week (10 to 14 November) the following updates have been received:

ITF approved agreements have been signed by the operators of seven vessels after action by ITF-affiliated seafarers’ and dockers’ unions in Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia, and following assistance from an Indonesian dockers’ union not currently affiliated to the Federation. Four other vessels are under negotiation while another with an outstanding backpay claim is now sailing towards Singapore where the ITF expects the claim will be settled on its arrival.

Major rallies have been held by participants in Manila, Cebu and Bangkok. According to the ITF the action week has already well exceeded its expectations.
