Protests continue as Osanloo begins second week in captivity

18 Julho 2007

The ITF today marked the beginning of Mansour Osanloo’s second week in captivity with a further appeal to the Iranian Government to ‘see sense and release him’.

Osanloo remains in Evin prison, and no reason has yet been given for his arrest and continuing detention, which had originally been denied by government and police.

ITF General Secretary David Cockroft said: “The Iranian authorities, who have persecuted this valiant man for so long, must put up or shut up. Explain what charge Mansour is held on or release him. And while they’re struggling with that idea the very least they can do is allow him access to his family, a lawyer and – and this is something we demand –  a doctor.”

He continued: “Our campaign to release Mansour continues, and continues growing. We particularly welcome the raising of this matter by both European Union Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner and, as reported today by the Associated Press, by the Defending Prisoners’ Rights Society in Tehran.

Protests can be made against the detention of Mansour Osanloo at www.itfglobal.org/solidarity/osanloo2.cfm
