First victory in Zamora justice campaign (También en version española)

The first victory in the campaign to secure justice for murdered Guatemalan trade unionist Pedro Zamora was announced today with the reinstatement of the nine sacked workers whose jobs he was fighting to save at the time he was shot.
The ITF, which is leading an international initiative to see justice done and protect Zamora’s colleagues (who are under the same threat of death as he was before his brutal killing), has confirmed that the men, all members of the STEPQ union, are back at work at Puerto Quetzal.
ITF General Secretary David Cockroft said: “This reinstatement couldn’t have happened without an order from the very top, and we know that it can only have come as a result of the pressure applied by trade unions and human rights organisations worldwide. One of our rightful demands has been met. The others – that the killers and those who gave them their orders be prosecuted, and the violent persecution of trade unionists cease – are still on the table. No matter how much some senior people in Guatemala would like us to shut up and go away, that’s not what we’ll be doing until justice is done.”
Pedro Zamora, General Secretary of the STEPQ Dockers’ union in Puerto Quetzal, was ambushed as he collected his sons from a hospital appointment on 15 January. After firing 100 shots one of the assassins walked up to the wounded Zamora and shot him in the face – in front of his children, one of whom, three year old Ángel, was wounded in the attack. Primera victoria en la campaña para justicia para Pedro Zamora
La primera victoria en la campaña para obtener la justicia para el sindicalista guatemalteco asesinado Pedro Zamora fue comunicado hoy, con la reintegración de los nueve trabajadores despedidos, cuyos derechos laborales Zamora defendía cuando fue asaltado.
La ITF, que encabeza una iniciativa internacional para exigir la justicia para Zamora y ayudar a brindar protección para sus colegas, quienes se encuentran también bajo amenaza de muerte, ha confirmado que los nueve trabajadores, todos afiliados del sindicato STEPQ, están restituidos en sus mismos cargos en Puerto Quetzal, y ya están laborando.
David Cockroft, el Secretario General de ITF dijo: "esto no puede haber sucedido sin una orden del más alto nivel. Sabemos llegamos a este paso sólo como resultado de la presión y el apoyo de los sindicatos y de las organizaciones de derechos humanos internacionales. Una de nuestras legítimas demandas se ha alcanzado. Las otras – que lleven a la justicia a los asesinos y a los que les dieron órdenes, y que cesen las persecuciones violentas de sindicalistas, están todavía por resolver. No nos importa que existe gente en Guatemala que quisiera nuestro silencio - no nos callaremos hasta que se acabe con la impunidad."
Pedro Zamora, Secretario General del sindicato portuario STEPQ en Puerto Quetzal, fue emboscado cuando recogía a sus hijos del hospital el 15 de enero. Después de efectuarle 100 disparos, uno de ellos caminó hacia el herido Zamora y le disparó en la cara – frente a sus hijos, uno de los cuales, Ángel, de tres años de edad, fue herido en el ataque.
