ITF backs MAIB’s wider inquiry call

25 mars 2009

Commenting on today’s MAIB (Marine Accident Investigation Branch) report into the fatal fire onboard the fishing vessel Vision II in Fraserburgh last year, ITF Co-ordinator for Britain and Ireland, Norrie McVicar, said:

“It’s a good, clean cut inquiry by the MAIB. The results are clear for all to see. We’re delighted that their findings back our call at the time of the fire for a wider investigation into conditions for foreign workers in the Scottish fishing industry. We utterly endorse the MAIB’s call for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to take an urgent and much wider look at what is going on in our waters today.”

“These are working boats, not living quarters. If the vessels aren’t fit for their purpose then the crews should be housed ashore.”
