ITF comment on al-Salam verdict

29 July 2008

Commenting on the acquital of the al-Salam Boccaccio 98's owners, ITF Seafarers Secretary Jon Whitlow said the decision was "Inexplicable. The investigation into the disaster revealed a trail of incompetence, greed and flagrant disregard not just of national and international legislation but also common sense. The decision to let the owners and company executive decision makers off without having to take responsibility for the consequences sets a dangerous precedent."
