Lyubov Orlova crew to be repatriated

22 October 2010

The bulk of the crew of the Russian-owned, Cook Islands-flagged cruise ship Lyubov Orlova, left stranded in St John’s, Newfoundland, Canada after the vessel was detained on 25 September over debts of US$251,000, look set to be repatriated by the end of October. The ship has now been arrested after the ITF filed a suit on behalf of its crew of 49 Russians and two Ukrainians, who had not been paid for over four months and were owed US$273,000 in back wages. Sixteen crew members will remain to ensure the ship’s safety and repayment of outstanding wages, assisted by the ITF.
