American citizen and Trade-unionist killed in El Salvador

El Salvador-born US citizen Gilberto Soto, 49 years old, and a representative of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, was brutally murdered last Friday in front of his mother's house in Usulutan, El Salvador. So far, police have reported no progress in finding the killers.
In a letter to US Secretary of State Colin Powell, Teamsters' President James Hoffa said he suspected a death squad had been involved, and linked this to Soto's involvement, together with other Central American union leaders, in a project investigating violations of human and labour rights of port drivers.
The ITF has also written to Colin Powell urging him to investigate the case fully.
