Job cuts planned in Irish DHL operations
8 May 2009
DHL is planning to shut down seven regional depots in Ireland putting some 320 jobs at risk. It is also set to restructure operations in Cork, Dublin and Limerick.
DHL Express claims that the job losses are a necessary response to a downturn in deliveries; the cuts are set to take place in August.
The ITF-affiliated Services, Industrial, Professional and Technical Union (Siptu), which represents the DHL Express workers, is due to meet with managers on 11 May.
Pat Ward, a Siptu organiser, said that the union would do everything possible over the next few days to work with management to save as many jobs as possible.
DHL currently employs around 1,600 people in Ireland.
