An executive board member of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company Union in Iran has been freed from detention.

Gholamreza Gholamhosseini was released on bail from Evin prison on 16 September after being detained for nearly three months. Bail was set at 100,000,000 Toman (US$100,000).

He was arrested by police in Tehran on 24 June while participating in an event to mark Iran's Women's Day in Shirodi Stadium, which was co-sponsored by the ITF-affiliated Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company Union.

Gholamhosseini will have to attend court again to face whatever charges are made against him.

Mac Urata, ITF Inland Transport Section Secretary commented: "We are pleased that Gholamhosseini has been freed, but we want all charges against him to be dropped. We are still waiting for the authorities to release the union’s President, Osanloo Mansour, and other labour leaders who remain in detention in Iran."

Two years ago, Gholamhosseini was dismissed from the bus company for taking part in strike action. Although a court ordered his reinstatement, the company refused to comply.
