Big four logistics workers push for union rights
9 November 2006
Unions are today taking a stand on workers’ rights at the world’s big four logistics companies as part of a joint ITF-Union Network International (UNI) Integrators’ Action Day.
Over one million workers worldwide, many of them represented by unions affiliated to the ITF and UNI, employed by DHL, Fedex, UPS and TNT, are seeking to build on existing relationships, extend membership or confront those hostile to workers joining a union.
Under the banner of Organising Globally, Fighting for Our Rights, today’s activities are likely to include rallies, education and training activities, press conferences and leafleting.
ITF General Secretary David Cockroft commented: “Integrator companies move goods globally using everything from vans to ships to aircraft, and employ people across national boundaries and across transport sectors. If those workers are to enjoy decent jobs, wages and conditions then the unions they make up must also plan globally. That awareness is at the core of this event and the ITF and UNI’s integrators’ campaign.”
