HIV/AIDS survey will feed into global anti-AIDS campaign
1 Agosto 2006
The ITF is launching a survey that will form a key part of a major new anti-AIDS campaign due to be premiered at the federation’s Congress in Durban, South Africa.
Designed to give the best possible picture of the spread and consequences of HIV/AIDS worldwide, the survey will help the ITF probe unions’ awareness and experiences of the pandemic, and learn from their responses to it. It can be seen and filled in at http://www.itfglobal.org/HIV-Aids/hiv-survey.cfm
Dr Asif Altaf, ITF Global HIV/AIDS Project Coordinator, explained: “The context and intensity of the HIV epidemic is unique to each country. What is a critical issue in one nation may be routine in another - no one should generalise the nature of the threat that the virus presents. What we do know is that transport workers are often disproportionately affected, and this is our opportunity to gather the best possible database of their and their unions’ experiences. That information will be a cornerstone of our imminent global campaign against AIDS.”
