14 March 2008

Months of negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement between TNT and a Dutch union have reached an impasse as a result of the company’s insistence on a wage freeze and substantial job cuts.

The union, Abvakabo FNV, is demanding a 3.5 per cent wage rise and a new collective agreement from 1 April. Meanwhile TNT is seeking agreement on extensive cuts in a bid to save 370 million euros annually by 2015; the company is hoping to make these savings through a pay freeze and cuts in other benefits, including pensions and overtime, as well as 7000 job losses.

Talks have been suspended as a result of the failure to reach an agreement.
