Programme:
On 4^th March, Barbara Ruthmann participated in a meeting at the Vilnius trolley-bus depot. She was welcomed by the female trade union leader and met with union council representatives, rank & file members, the chairperson of the Transport workers’ federation and members of the Women’s Committee of the national center. The management was present at the meeting, which raised hopes for future cooperation between social partners on gender equality in urban public transport. On 5^th March Barbara Ruthmann visited work places and talked with women transport workers. They exchanged information on working conditions, pay, social security and benefits in Germany and Lithuania. Lithuanian female workers pointed out that the female workforce in Lithuania is particularly affected by the continuous depreciation of job and life quality. They expressed their concern vis-à-vis job-guarantee in the context of privatisation. Most of them doubted that enlargement will make life and work better for people in Lithuania.
