It is with great concern that the European Transport Federation (ETF) learns about the latest policy developments occurring in Spain regarding the modifications tabled to the act 48/2003 and which would very negatively affect dock work in Spanish ports.

The proposed changes would legitimate the use of casual work, with negative consequences for security, safety and workers’ professionalism and would at the same time deny the essential character of port operations as public services.
It is regrettable, moreover, that the Spanish policy-makers have tabled the abovementioned initiatives without consideration for the negative opinion expressed by the port workers’ unions.

In view of the considerations stated above, the ETF expresses its solidarity with its Spanish members and with the Spanish workers that, from 11 May onwards will strike to make their voice heard.

ETF furthermore calls its affiliates to join its appeal and express solidarity to the Spanish brothers and sisters, who are struggling against the introduction of the same principles that we have opposed during our campaign against the Port Packages.
