Managerial and Professional Staff
Following discussions held at the last ETF Congress (May 2005) it was agreed that more attention should be paid to the growing number of managers and professionals (often referred to as Managerial and Professional Staff, M&PS) working in the transport sector. The MASTER project submitted to the European Commission in 2007 aimed at raising ETF affiliates’ awareness to this growing reality, providing them with up to date information with regards to the number of M&PS in the transport sector, their expectations, problems, challenges. It should further provide ETF affiliates with a clearer picture of the M&PS expectations from trade unions with a view to foster a higher degree of trade union membership among managers and professionals.
A key objective of the project was the development of a study providing statistical data on M&PS in the transport sector, a survey (questionnaire and interviews) involving ETF affiliates representing M&PS regarding their experiences at work and expectation towards trade unions and the publication of the key findings for future use by ETF members. An external consultant was selected to conduct the study, namely the Laboratoire d’Histoire Economique Sociale et des Techniques, of the Université d’Evry Val d’Essonne, France.
