ETF shares concerns of Moroccan trade union Union des Syndicats UMT des Transports over the possible dismissal of 2000 dock workers.

ETF backs the solidarity initiatives undertaken by the ITF in support of its Moroccan affiliate, Union des Syndicats UMT des Transports. The Moroccan government is carrying out a reform of the port system which could cause the dismissal of 2000 dock workers. Notwithstanding trade unions’ appeals for negotiating acceptable solutions, governments’ plan does not include social measures addressed to workers.

As a reason, the ETF has recently contacted the the Moroccan Ministries of Transport and Employment pointing out how critical the situation could turn out for the dock workers and their families, and urging the government to engage in negotiations with trade unions.
