The European Transport Workers’ Federation, representing workers in all transport sectors and fisheries across an enlarged Europe, is launching a broad debate towards a TRade Union Vision on Sustainable Transport.

TRUST is a EU-funded project intending to:

• Give guidance to a trade union’s contribution to transport sustainability policies.
• Focus on the social dimension of a long-term outlook of the transport future in Europe.
• Highlight the importance of the “employment pillar” of the Lisbon Strategy: more and better jobs.
• Stress the need for appropriate assessment of restructuring processes.
• Mainstream gender-equality issues across a discussion on sustainability.
• Promote best-practice examples towards new forms of organization.

Employers’ organizations, NGOs and members of the European institutions will be invited to further enrich the discussions.

Conclusions drawn from these exchanges are aimed to set up a new policy framework, allowing social sustainability and workers’ needs enter the mainstream of the European transport policy design.
