Estonian Transport and Road Workers Trade Union ETTA is going to an one hour warning strike on Friday 8-9 am local time.
30 June 2006
The strike will affect the urban transport in the second and third biggest Estonian cities Tartu and Pärnu. All together there will be 200 bus drivers on strike.
ETTA's warning strike is meant to make the pressure on the Estonian biggest bus company GoBus (local private capital) in order to make them sign a collective agreement and abolish huge wage differences between their regional units.
If that strike does not have the wanted results, we are ready for widening the industrial actions to the national level in August. We also have a strong support from Estonian railway workers and some other unions, which might turn to some sympathy actions. Every announcement of international solidarity would also encourage our bus drivers in their actions.
Last time Estonian transport workers were in strike in September 2002, when the city bus drivers of Tartu gained 10% of pay rise.
