ETF expresses its condolences to families of dramatic train accident in Belgium

On Monday morning, 15 February 2010, a dramatic train accident in Buizingen, Belgium, caused death to at least 18 people, more than 170 persons got injured. On behalf of its affiliates, the ETF has expressed its deep condolences to the families and friends of the victims in a letter of sympathy to its Belgian affiliates in the railway sector.

In this letter the ETF expressed its solidarity to their constant fight to obtain better living and working conditions for their members, improved safety and higher quality for the railway transport. Sabine Trier, ETF Deputy General Secretary and Political Secretary for the ETF Railway Section said: “After a profound investigation and in cooperation with the trade unions, effective measures have to be installed in order to prevent such dramatic events will happen again. ETF is of the opinion that safety of train personnel and passengers has to be one of the biggest priorities for the employers and policy makers.”
