Commission to Blame for Social Unrest

9 March 2009

On March 5, the leadership of seven European trade union federations, including the ETF’s, issued a joint statement admonishing the Commission’s role in the Lindsey strikes.  The Commission’s comments on the European Court of Justice’s rulings in the Viking, Laval, Rüffert and Luxembourg cases have fueled a social crisis, on par with the current financial and economic crisis, that has enveloped Europe.  The continued European interference on the freedom of collective bargaining should be stopped so that the fundamental pillars of a social Europe can be protected. Please click below to read the joint statement in the different language versions.
