ETF meets EU policy makers over the crisis of the Fisheries Sector
1 July 2008
On 26 June 2008 an ETF delegation met Commissioner J. Borg’s Head of Cabinet, Mr Tabone. During the meeting ETF had the occasion to state its views on the crisis affecting the fisheries sector alongside workers’ priorities and demands. Employed fishermen’s point of view had been delivered already the previous day, 25 of June, during a hearing organized by the European Parliament Commission on Fisheries (PECH). While asking that the proposed measures linked to the present crisis are not limited to enterprises but also benefit workers directly, ETF reiterated its appeal to the Commission not to forget that this crisis origins from structural factors and to build policies aimed at creating conditions for socially, economically and environmentally sustainable fisheries. When presenting its points of view on the current situation, ETF urged policy makers to treat the social aspects of the current crisis along with the economic ones.Related documents:
