Eco-Labelling

In March 2006 the ETF Fisheries Sector adopted its position paper on the Communication from the Commission on “Launching a debate on a Community approach towards eco-labelling schemes for fisheries products” (COM (2005)275 final).

The ETF Fisheries Section, consulted by DG FISH in the framework of the Advisory Committee for Fisheries and Aquaculture, wanted nevertheless to express its opinion on this controversial theme, highlighting the critical points of the Commission’s proposal, especially those which could have a negative impact on the social-economic conditions of employed fishermen.
