The ITF has developed the following manuals for use in education activities. For a brief summary of what is contained in each manual click on the title below and to download please view the end of this web page.
The ITF has produced a strategic campaigns manual as part of a project supported by FNV Mondiaal. The manual is designed to help unions plan specific campaigns, which target either employers or government.
The manual is a step by step guide on how to plan and implement an effective campaign. Modules include identifying targets that could bring pressure to bear on the target, developing strategies and tactics, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and case studies of actual campaigns.
The manual also enables affiliates to identify their communication networks by mapping the workplace. In so doing affiliates will be better placed to involve their membership in campaign planning and action. The manual provides affiliates with tools to plan local or national campaigns, which might also have an international dimension. It can further be used to plan single or multiple campaigns in different transport sectors.

The manual consists of three sections including; ‘What is Globalisation?’ ‘Globalisation and Transport Sectors,’ and ‘Mobilising Global Solidarity’. The resource book provides the educator with ideas on how to use the manual and also suggested education activities at the end of each chapter.
The Globalising Solidarity manual aims to provide affiliates with an understanding of globalisation and its components. It also illustrates how globalisation manifests itself within the transport industry by looking at the various transport sectors and the impact on workers and the unions. The importance of solidarity action and support is highlighted as an essential element towards winning in today’s workplace. Examples of past disputes where solidarity support played a part and the role of the ITF in supporting and coordinating affiliate campaigns and action is contained within the manual.
The manual consists of six chapters including: ‘Equal Opportunities - overcoming discrimination’, ‘Negotiating family related rights-maternity, paternity and parental leave’, ‘Acting against Sexual Harassment’, ‘Preventing violence at work’ ‘working hours-protecting women workers’ rights’ ‘Improving health and safety’ ‘Strong Unions Need Women’. The resource book provides the educator with a section on how to use the manual and also suggested education activities at the end of each chapter.
The manual aims to provide affiliates with information on issues around gender discrimination and women’s rights within the transport industry. It also details numerous international legal instruments that can be used to achieve equality for women, as well as, guidelines on how develop a policy on sexual harassment and discrimination for example. The manual contains examples of unions policies on these issues, and the need for affiliate to encourage women’s participation within the union.
Workers' Rights are Human Rights
The manual consists of four chapters, including: ‘Transport Workers and Human rights, ‘Human Rights for all’, ‘Workers Rights for all’ and ‘Taking Action for Rights’. The resource book provides the educator with ideas on how to use the manual and also suggested education activities at the end of each chapter.
The aim of the Manual is to highlight the key rights related issues including basic trade union rights, child labour, HIV/AIDS, migrant workers, refugees etc. An assessment of how globalisation has exacerbated violation of these and other workers’ rights is given. Specific transport sector violations and union responses to them are outlined. The manual also outlines international instruments including the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and explains the role of the International Labour Organisation and the various codes of practices that it has produced.
The manual helps transport unions develop the capacity and skills to formulate workplace policies and collective bargaining strategies on HIV/AIDS. It is aimed at is union leaders, negotiators, trainers and shop stewards.
Chapters include: HIV/AIDS and the Transport Industry, Understanding HIV/AIDS, Trade Unions Take Action and Workplace Polices and Collective Agreements. Each chapter contains ideas for education activities and campaigns. Key information within each chapter is also summarised at the end.
