Strike by Indian seafarers

8 August 2006

The ITF is backing a call for joint strike action by two Indian seafarers’ affiliates, NUSI and FSUI, following the refusal of shipowners to enter into a collective bargaining agreement covering more than 50,000 Indian ratings and petty officers.

The one-day strike on Indian-flagged vessels is scheduled for 29 August.
On Sunday, the ITF’s Joint Seafarers’ and Dockers’ Conference declared that it stood fully behind the two ITF affiliates, after hearing that negotiations with employers had broken down.
