ITF congress now on
2 August 2006
The ITF’s biggest ever world congress is now under way in South Africa.
The first to be held in Africa, the 41st congress, which runs from August 2nd to 9th, has attracted 1,194 participants from 387 unions in 111 countries, and is being held at the International Convention Centre, Durban.
Congress determines the direction the ITF will take in the next four years, and this year’s overriding theme is Organising Globally: Fighting for our Rights.
ITF General Secretary David Cockroft commented: “The last two congresses authorised us to mobilise unions in the face of a new kind of global employer. A global challenge requires a global response, and that is what we will be perfecting in Durban.”
